How To Make Vanilla Extract


  • at least 8 oz vodka
  • 3 vanilla beans per 8 oz of vodka


  1. Split the vanilla beans with a knife. Don’t cut them in half completely, just score them.
  2. Put your vanilla beans into a jar.
  3. Add vodka.
  4. Label with the date, add a lid and shake. Put the jar in your cupboard for 2-3 months, shaking occasionally.
  5. After about 3 months, strain the floaty bits out and use while baking or give as a gift.
