BBQ sauce is one of those unfortunate victims of HFCS. Almost every sauce has it. We did find some at the grocery store without, but it seems fairly easy to make the sauce myself–so why not? I may experiment with other recipes in the future too.
- 2 c ketchup (watch the labels, some have HFCS)
- 1 c water
- 1/2 c apple cider vinegar
- 5 Tbsp brown sugar
- 5 Tbsp honey (changed from 5 Tbsp sugar)
- 1/2 Tbsp black pepper
- 1/2 Tbsp onion powder
- 1/2 Tbsp garlic powder
- 1/2 Tbsp ground mustard
- 1 Tbsp lemon juice
- 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce (watch the labels, some have HFCS)
In a medium saucepan, combine all ingredients. Bring mixture to a boil, reduce heat to simmer. Cook uncovered, stirring frequently, for 1 hour 15 minutes.
